Industry entry, hard lessons included
Todd started in insurance in 2017 with a strong work ethic and a commitment to learn the business from the ground up. Early on, he was selling limited medical and discount-style coverage plans that offered narrow protection. The early market reality was tough: he was often expected to present weak plans in the best possible light. That never sat right with him — and it became the reason he'd eventually rebuild the whole approach.
Searching for better options
Todd moved across teams, carriers, and market environments to keep learning. He studied products, underwriting behavior, enrollment outcomes, and support standards across the country so he could find better paths for clients instead of just repeating a script. That phase shaped his advisory identity: explain tradeoffs honestly, align decisions to real budgets, and avoid selling something that sounds good but fails people when they need it most.
The Ideal Health chapter
Todd eventually launched his own agency, Ideal Health. The timing was difficult, arriving just before COVID, and the business partnership dynamics were not ideal. Even so, Todd and his partner Bailey executed at a high level. In roughly seven months, the team wrote over $1M in annual policies from an initial investment of about $40k. When shared office constraints, industry reform shifts, and broader market turbulence changed the path, Todd made the disciplined decision to close the office and return to independent selling with the lessons, standards, and resilience that chapter produced.
